What is Hypnotherapy?
The term "hypnosis" is derived from the Greek word Hypnos - meaning "sleep." Hypnotherapists generally use exercises that bring about deep relaxation and an altered state of consciousness, which is sometimes known as a 'trance."

Most of us have regularly experienced a "trance like state" when we watch TV, daydream or sit at a red light in our car.

A person in a "trance like" or deeply focused state, is generally quite receptive to an idea or image. However, this doesn't mean that a hypnotherapist can control the persons mind or free will.

It does mean that the hypnotherapist can work with you to train or guide them on how they can master their own states of awareness and wellbeing.

By being able to master your own state of awareness and wellbeing, you are able to positively influence your own bodily functions, emotional and mental responses to situations and life events that are no longer positively working for you.
-
What is Hypnosis?Hypnosis is a natural state of mind. Waking is a state of accomplishment. You are not asleep while in hypnosis. Sleep is state of rest. Hypnosis is a state given to us for self-improvement.
-
Does Hypnosis weaken the will....No. Self-Hypnosis strengthens the will. Hypnosis works with the will, not against it.
-
Is Hypnotherapy dangerous? There has never been a documented case of harm coming to anyone from therapeutic Hypnotherapy.
-
Can a person be Hypnotised against their will?No one is hypnotised against their will. Entering Hypnosis is a CONSENT state. The Hypnotherapist assists and guides you into this state.
-
Could I have trouble coming out of Hypnosis?A person may choose to stay in hypnosis after an experienced Hypnotherapist asks them to come out of it. REASON being it's such a relaxed feeling of enjoyment, the person prefers to stay hypnotised a while longer. If the Hypnotherapist were to leave unexpectdly, the person would merely drift into a natural sleep, to awaken at a more personally convenient time. In SELF-HYPNOSIS you have complete control and set your own limits. - There has never been a documented case of someone being unable to come out of hypnosis.
-
What is Self-Hypnosis?Techniques exist by which one can attain a state of Self-Hypnosis and gain complete relaxation under the most stressful conditions. In this state, the subconscious mind is open to therapeutic suggestions.
-
What is the Subconscious mind? The CONSCIOUS mind - the mind that you are conscious of, is your 'ME". It's the critical part of your mind. The SUBCONSCIOUS mind is the the one that directs your conduct through your habits and emotional desires, aquired from the influences of your environment.
-
What is AUTOSUGGESTION?Through proper use of autosuggestion, you are able to reprogram the subconscious mind to make decisions favourable to your welfare. The NEW suggestions help in overcoming unwanted habits, a lack of concentration and any other unhealthy attitudes that doom you to failure...........
-
Who can be Hypnotised?ANYONE with an open mind and able to concentrate has the capacity to be hypnotised.
-
How does Hypnotherapy work? The human mind is extremely vulnerable to being overloaded daily with suggestive stimuli from external sources, thoughts and ideas from the inside. A good deal of suffering is the consequence of "negative" thoughts and impulses invading one's mind from the subconscious recesses. Unfortunately, past experiences, feelings of guilt, repressed impulses and desires are constantly pushing themselves into awareness, directly or in disguised forms of thinking. These thoughts can become feelings that can sabotage our happiness, health and efficiency. By the time you have reached adulthood, there can be a build up of "negative" modes of thinking, feeling and acting which persist like bad habits. Like any habit, they are hard to break or change. Using Hypnosis, we are able to transform negative attitudes into positive ones. effect. As you begin using the principles being imparted, you will begin to notice positive changes. EVEN with no apparent changes on the surface, much is happening on the inside.....
-
How can I help in the treatment processIt's important to mention to your therapist your reactions to the process of change that you have observed. Despite how irrelevant or confusing they may see, sharing these with your therapist may provide useful insights. Dreams and resistances help to provide understanding of your inner conflicts and may help in your progress towards positive change.
-
What if I can't be Hypnotised? Many people believe they cannot hypnotised, often because they have a fear of losing control. Actually the opposite is true. You are exercising a more powerful form of thought control than at other times by accepting the suggestions given. The only thought to prevent you from going into hypnosis is the thought "I cannot be hypnotised."
-
How many times will I need to attend Hypnotherapy? The number of appointments needed to address your reason for treatment varies widely. However, as a general guide: ANXIETY and related issues generally require approximately 5 - 7 treatments. QUIT SMOKING 1 - 3 treatments. OTHER ADDICTIONS / HABITS depend greatly on your personal circumstances, lifestyle and the contributing factors surrounding your addiction.
